According to several leading market research firms, the
number of Wi-Fi chipsets sold for embedded applications
will exceed the number of chipsets sold in traditional
IT/PC applications in 2009. For example, Merrill Lynch,
in their February 2006 report titled “Wi-Fi – The Second Coming”, is forecasting that approximately 280M chipsets will be sold worldwide in embedded devices, versus approximately 200M units in the IT/PC market.
